Matthew J. Koenig Memorial Scholarship Application

The Matthew J. Koenig Memorial Scholarship was created by the AIA Philadelphia Golf Committee to honor our dear friend and colleague Matt Koenig. This scholarship was created to honor Matt's passion and commitment to bettering the profession of architecture.

Who is Eligible?

• Current student at Temple University enrolled in their architecture program, either undergraduate or graduate.
• Identify as Female, Black, Indigenous, Person of Color, and/or Latinx.

What is the Criteria in Selecting Recipients?

The Matthew J. Koenig Scholarship Committee will consider the following criteria when selecting scholarship recipients. Please address/include all of these criteria in your cover letter application.

• Description of coursework completed
• Other indicators of academic performance, academic honors
• Community involvement or extracurricular activities
• Indicate why you are pursuing a degree in architecture
• Who is your favorite architect?
• What is your favorite building in Philadelphia?

Application Packet Should Be Combined into One PDF document and Include:

• Cover Letter (be sure to address all six bullet points above in the Cover Letter)
• Resume/CV
• Pictures/Images of Your Work (No More than 5 images)
• Two (2) references or letters of recommendations

Applications are due by April 5, 2024.

If selected as a finalist, the applicant must arrange a time to be interviewed by member(s) of the Scholarship Committee. This interview could be virtual or in-person.

If selected as a scholarship recipient, the applicant will sign a brief agreement that clarifies that this is a one-time grant and that the scholarship funds must be spent on the following:

• Transportation to and from educational institution;
• Room and Board;
• Books and Supplies; and/or
• Tuition
